Group Activities

We have just built a new Wordpress site.... http://www.pendleheritage.co.uk/archaeology/

Winter programme of events...

Our Autumn field walking concentrated on two Roughlee Vaccaries, which lay close to Newchurch-in-Pendle and Roughlee.  We enjoyed meeting and working with Pendle Forest History Group http://www.pendleforesthistorygroup.co.uk/ in this venture.

Recording Barns at Wycoller has now finished...

... except for finishing off and writing up!  Click Here for some photos.

Over the Summer...

as an extension of the barns project, we are undertaking small trial excavations near to Copy House, Wycoller.
The first, 'Site 1' is on Saturday, 29th June and depending on the results, we will decide whether to extend the excavation into Sunday, 30th.  We will meet again on 13th July to do trial holes at two other nearby sites, 'Sites 2 and 3'.
The sites are possibly barns or shippons and the aim is to verify this and obtain as much information as possible.

Parking is non-existent at Copy House so  we shall meet on the car park on the outskirts of Wycoller, accessed from Trawden, at 9.30am.  We will then drive the equipment up to the site and take participants who don't like walking!  One or two cars will also park at Pepper Hill Barn dependent on the numbers taking part.  Please bring refreshments, necessary clothing and personal tools.  If the weather is exceptionally wet on a Saturday morning, we will call it off.

Site 1 (below) drew a blank so we will move to sites 2 and 3 on 13th July.
Site 2  Update of 13th July is on the blog ...
