We have completed a three-year rapid survey of the Pendle Forest in search of surviving boundaries and other features of the vaccary farm enclosures.  The survey has successfully identified most, if not all, of the vaccaries plus three small deer parks and other enclosures.   We have identified a number of characteristic shapes for the vaccary enclosures which have also been identified in the other Forests.

We are now working on a more detailed survey in partnership with Pendle Forest History Group .

The photograph shows the former deer park called The Fence, a specialist balloon shaped hunting enclosure where beaters funnelled deer downhill to the narrow neck where bowmen lay in wait.
